[SlimDX] Quick lighting question

Hey all, For some reason I can't get default/ambient lighting to turn off. I use: .SetRenderState(RenderState.Lighting, true); .SetRenderState(RenderState.Ambient, 0); And much to my dismay everything is still perfectly lit! I haven't created any lights or materials, and the normal vector for all verticies is 0,1,0, just for testing. I would expect the primitives to be rendered black, no? Am I missing a step? Thanks in advance, -joe
