Warcraft2 isometric

Warcraft 2 is considered isometric right? but in the campaign editor the tiles are squares not diamonds right? everywhere i read it keeps saying the tiles must be diamond shape. am i missing something or am i just completely confused please help me!

Iso-semetric IS that sort of diamond shape... or something similar to a 2D grid rotated 45 degrees. Now WC2 is what I belive is called a ''tile-based'' grid. Although both in memory are represented basically by a multiple subscript array (int nMap [XDIM][YDIM]) the isosemetric looks much less like one of ''those'' sorts of games, IE not a hardcore grid type thing. If you want a GREAT example of how iso-semetric views can improve graphics and what not, take a look at pictures of SimCity I vs SimCity II.
