Chris: please get rid of this. this is the most frustrating part of pr for me (and im shure many other people). it makes life so much easier if you can use real filenames : )

You can''t use long filenames in the archive files. This affects LStudio packages and also characters.

This was done for portability and will not likely change in the future.
