I'm using the nehe tutorials (#13 or #14) to render fonts to opengl. I can't decide between bitmap fonts and stroke fonts. I don't need to do anything fancy with the text (no rotation, scaling, etc) except I want the text antialiased. Does that require stroke fonts?

Probably not, as long as your bitmaps are alpha-blended.

PNG would probably be a good choice then. I think Angel Code's BMFont supports it with a couple options for what to do with the alpha channel. I don't know about other utilities.
