[C++] cin and it's own output

When asking the user to enter data via std::cin, is there a way to modify the buffer they are typing into on the fly? (I.E. Default values, forcibly inserting a newline after so many characters, or using SetConsoleTextAttribute to turn text after a known limit with getline() red)
