gluLookAt matrix multiplication

hi, i need a little help to figure out what gluLookAt do. so i know the default gluLookAt is 0, 0, 0 pointing 0, 0, -1, with up 0, 1, 0. and then i set a different value ie: gluLookAt(5, 5, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0); does it has the same effect if i the matrix glGetFloatv(GL_MODELVIEW_MATRIX, lookAtMatrix); and multiply it with my scene and see it from the default gluLookAt value (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, -1, 0, 1, 0)? thanks in advance
