object-scaling

I am working on a terrain-engine and suddenly realised something curious: When I draw (with Direct3d, voodoo2) my terrain (array of points [512][512]) one time with the coordinates D3DVECTOR(512.0f,0.0f,512.0f) for the edge upper right, and one time with D3DVECTOR(1024.0f,0.0f,1024.0f), it becomes slower. What I mean, I just scale the whole terrain with the factor 2. But there aren''t more polygons or vertices. It isn''t much more slower, but sometimes it dosn''t work as fluently as with 512.0f. So is it slower to work with big objects ? (If it is so, why?)
