I''m just working on putting animated sprites into my program (in this case a walking cartoony character) I''ve thought of a few ways to do it but they all are sort of odd and hacker-esque. Does anyone know of a clear way to do it? (my sprite is a bitmap I loaded).

That depends...

If your talking about some kind of game or screen saver and speed and performance is an issue for you, then use directx. So just down load the DX8 sdk and look though the samples. There is a lot of simple code that will show you how to draw it to the screen and you can just use the code and modify a little for your stuff. If you want to just display a little animation on a dialog box or just some animated display in a "real" window application then just use your hack... It won''t make a difference
