I am writing an Othello game in Windows. Why Othello? Well, I have written an Othello game before, but it was in Pascal and it was on a Unix system (college project). I was just going to use the Windows GDI. Is there any reason to use Direct X instead? I would eventually like to allow 2 players to play over the LAN, and this would probably be easier using DirectPlay. But is it worth the overhead of using DX? Thanks, Jason

Since Othello isn''t really a graphically intensive game, I don''t think DirectDraw is necessary. And the multiplayer part can be handled quite nicely by Winsock.

If youre serius about making games for windows I think using DirectX would be a good idea. A simple game like othello would be a great starting point to learn DirectX.
