I came up with an idea (probably not very original) that Ill try to use myself. Ok so I have this super duper cool mega game in mind. Start hacking hacking hacking..but never reach the end cause the aim is to high. So people say aim lower. Ok I agree but aim well! What do I mean? I mean split the super duper game into smaller parts but each part should be something complete! Something that you can give away..publish..post at Youtube whatever.. This way you can feel good about each step. I now this is not easy..to split a game like this. So the idea is to plan from the start what each complete part should be.

It's actually quite easy. That's what milestones are for the most part.

My team likes to finish every milestone with a demo at 30+FPS

Exactly!! They are not just milestones "this and this should be completed" they are something that can be shown to others!
