If you have played the original version of Abe''s Odyssey you would have noticed the characters were created in a 3D modelling program of some sort, then dumped to a Bitmap file. Does anyone know what program they used? Can someone recommend a good easy-to-use program that can model and animate 3D objects (not complete scenes) and output the frames to bitmap files?

Well I''m partial to Lightwave 3d. Maya and 3d Studio Max would also amply suffice. But I imagine those are out of the price range. So take a look at something called Blender. I''ve never used it ( I use Lightwave 3d) but the sample renders look good. And it is free.

Blender is not that good for a beginer. The interface is very hard to learn. I would suggjest getting an out dated version of a well known product on e-bay.

or check out truespace5 it is pretty good, and alot cheaper than 3DS
Blender is free and commercial quality but the interface is incredibly esoteric. If you have the time, try to figure it out (I admit, I never figured most of it out, but I''m not much of a 3D artist either ).
