Make a private server?

I bet all of u have heard of, World of Warcraft and Lineage 2 private servers.
I mean its ok when u can download them from a website. But what if u
want to make ur own machine. For example, there is a MMORPG that u don't
want to pay for it, and just want to have some private fun. How would u do it?
Not the best question to be asking on a game dev board (pretty sure server emulators are some kind of IP infringement, or at least a EULA breach).

If you want to play an MMO game you should pay the subscription fees.
