Need a pro answers

So I heard that Blizzard will allow the sale of premium maps - and i've had time to mess with it's powerful editor. I want to make my own game. I was considering a stepping stone from a popcap type game to a full blown 3d game. My question: Do I use the starcraft editor to flesh out my small version to get out balance issues and development ideas with a potential marketing of my map for revenue? Or would it be more worthwhile to create the first portion using XNA and have to learn the language since i'll have to anyway? The tradeoff here is the amount of time I will save making my first with the map editor, but I won't know any of the language I haven't learned yet. Or, the tradeoff would be the amount of time I will have to spend on the XNA language but walk away with the knowledge of the language. Cheers.
