Real time Incremental catmull-rom spline point generation

I am using this method in pathfinding. How do I guarantee each unit step can "satisfy" a catmull-rom spline curvature while dodging obstacles? I already have the brushfire algorithm to help out. PS: it only has 2 points, 1 the current pos, 2 the destination basically I just want to know how to form a curve with less than 3 control pts.
