Effective point cloud loading - STL mesh

Hi, I want to load STL mesh file. What is the effective way to load points? I used KD tree approach. But that takes time. How MeshLab quickly loading STL mesh? STL file contains many duplicated points. So when we load a new point from the STL mesh file we need to check the already loaded point list to check whether the point already exists or not.
