Sprite & Mesh conflict

I''m having problem rendering a mesh over a sprite background. The mesh hides behind the sprite. When I use the dev->setrenderstate(D3DRS_ZENABLE, 1), certain part of the mesh becomes transparent. What do I do? Help.

Sprites are meant to be layered on top of the current image, so I imagine that trying to get them to behave differently will be unpredictable at best.

Don''t use d3dx sprite functions, use transformed triangles texture mapped with your sprite.
