Looking for Tips on Optimizing Code

I''m looking for tips and tricks to optimize direct x(ddraw/dinput), c++, windows code. Any common recomendations out there. I know code optimizing is pretty specific to the code your working on, but this is for just general programming not a specific program. And tips would be greatly apprciated.

Have you looked at the articles here on GameDev? That should be your place to check. There is one article here and a whole subsection here, so make sure you look around the site before you ask on the forums.
