Alpha blending vs multiple triangles

Quick question: I have a wall with a window in it. Which is faster: rendering 4 quads leaving the window empty, or rendering 1 quad textured with 1.0f alpha value where the window is? I would think the textured one would be faster but my old ATI card stank at alpha blending so I''m not sure. By the way, I''m using OpenGL, if that makes any difference. And the wall would be textured anyway.
