If I set the units to metres in 3d Studio Max then

- .X files 1:1 scale with XNA
- .FBX files are 100:1 scale with XNA

Changing the units to centimetres resolves the problem for .FBX files but why does this happen in the first place, shouldn't all export file types be the same size if they are based on the same units?

If you search your FBX file for UnitScaleFactor you'll see that it is set to around 100 when 3DS exports to FBX. I don't know where it gets it from, but there is more discussion of the issue here and here.

Thank you for the info, most helpful. Web pages have been archived. What a strange bug to have in the exporter.
