OpenGL Sudden performance drop

I´m working on a 3d-Editor using OpenGl and Qt.
By now I´ve been using WinXp 64bit as my 'develop' platform and everything was working fine.
Last week i switched to Win7 and the problems were about to begin. Besides that the rendering seemed to perform ~5% slower than on XP there are massive framerate-drops from ~300fps to ~15 fps after some time, let´s say 2 minutes.
Regarding the rendering there is nothing fancy about it, so it´s just simple rendering of VBOs using some GLSL shaders.
First I thought it might be some leaking memory but there seems no problem and it wouldn´t explain why it ran perfectly under WinXP.
I suppose it 'might' be some kind of driver issue but I´m using the very latest one provided by NVIDIA.
The graphics card I´m using is a NVIDIA 8600M gt.
Did some of you encounter similar problems?
