Looking for Book on Terrain Programming

I am trying to make an FPS-like multiplayer game with randomly generated terrain. However, I haven't done any terrain rendering before and I am looking for a book that would explain it a bit.

Focus on 3D Terrain Programming (http://www.gamedev.net/columns/books/bookdetails.asp?productid=203) looks pretty good, but I am not sure if this is the best choice since it is already a bit older, has some negative reviews and I don't know whether I need four different approaches to terrain rendering.

Edit: White Papers are enough.
