Hi all,

I'm looking for a MMO Engine like OpenSpace Engine (http://www.openspace-engine.com/). Which engines can you recommend to a beginner like me?
I'd like to create a simple MMO with chat etc.

Thanks for your help & advice!

Simple and MMO don't go together. And if you need something like (said engine), why not use that engine?
But all that aside, beginners shouldn't try an mmo.

Realmcraft is a good one, it's not free but costs $165.00 now that its in beta. Bought it myself, you can get pretty results even as a beginner. Check it out:

theres a load of mmorpg engines all routed from the same basic toolset but i can't remember the name of the original. http://freemmorpgmaker.com/index.php - eclipse is one of them, maybe the original i dunno. to do any real tweaking youll need a pretty hefty amount of coding knowledge but in terms of changing levels and graphics and items and monsters and stuff you could do all that pretty easily.

edit:
but you do have to realise that in all likelihood you will fail very quickly. everyones wanted to or tried to do it at some point and very few people even get past the first few problems they encounter. having said that, good luck i guess. im sure itll be a learning experience.

Realmcrafter.com is the right website to go to. This forum has seen thousands of threads, and post on making an MMO. Keep your ideas small and build on those. Don't think you are going to beat out a game such as World Of Warcraft, Ever Quest etc. As a hobby game developer Realm Crafter will give you decent results with little time. However, the developers arent really involved in the community anymore, and a lot of there programs remain broken. Mostly the community are the ones fixing bugs now. The developers made a broken Engine, and kept it that way. Eclipse is great for 2D MMO's, and has a great community and lots of help. Good luck.
