Learning 3d sound for Direct X 9 or later

Which DirectX library should I learn for sound: XAudio (10 or later I think) or DirectSound? I would like something that will stay with us for a while, but at this point I'll be happy just to get multiple 3D sounds working.

...and what's my best source for learning? I haven't found a book, or working code I can download that does multiple 3D sounds.
