the best hlsl editor?

i was wondering , im programming via shaders in c++ and directx..

what is the best and easy piece of software to edit and create hlsl shader code

I rather like Notepad++, but it really depends what you're trying to do with the software. For quick edits, the big IDEs like the ones mentioned above are a royal pain and drastically increase iteration time-- all you want to do is make a few quick tweaks!

For scratchwriting things, I've always preferred FX Composer 1.8 to the newer versions due to the rapid access to the output assembly (though, to be fair, you can do this in newer versions and they may have made it more intuitive) and less cluttered interface. Never much cared for RenderMonkey, and I've already mentioned my stance on newer versions of FX Composer.
