Written by one of the world's top game designers, this book describes the deepest and most fundamental principles of game design, demonstrating how tactics used in board, card, and athletic games also work in video games. A Practical Guide to Indie Game Marketing, by Joel Dreskin Marketing is an essential but too frequently overlooked or minimized component of the release plan for indie games. A Practical Guide to Indie Game Marketing provides you with the tools needed to build visibility and sell your indie games. With special focus on those developers with small budgets and limited staff and resources, this book is packed with tangible recommendations and techniques that you can put to use immediately. As a seasoned professional of the indie game arena, author Joel Dreskin gives you insight into practical, real-world experiences of marketing numerous successful games and also provides stories of the failures. View it here. An Architectural Approach to Level Design This is one of the first books to integrate architectural and spatial design theory with the field of level design. The book presents architectural techniques and theories for level designers to use in their own work. It connects architecture and level design in different ways that address the practical elements of how designers construct space and the experiential elements of how and why humans interact with this space. Throughout the text, readers learn skills for spatial layout, evoking emotion through gamespaces, and creating better levels through architectural theory. View it here. Your artwork is very impressive and i am sure you will find someone willing to hire you! Unfortunately i do not have the money to hire you on a paid basis for my project. If this changes, i will certainly be knocking on your virtual door :)

Hey, I remember you from the Wesnoth forums. Have you ever tried your hand at isometric character sprites (perhaps more realistic than the cliche big head/small body ones)?

Best of luck to you.

I loved the second set, the painting-like effect is superb. that'd make for a great dark-themed rpg. Awesome work!

I just wanted to post to say that we have been working with Alex on a contract basis building level artwork for our current title in production and we are extremely happy with the end result. The turn around time has been very quick and the quality of the work actually surpasses some of our original ideas. I have actually worked with contracting out art and design a lot in the past and I have to say that this has been the smoothest process by far.

So if anyone has been looking for some amazing 2D work I would highly recommend Alex!

Like what the lord of mordor said, I highly recommend Alex too. His capability of understanding requirements and sometimes even surpass the original idea is uncanny. Not to mention the incredibly fast turnaround time.

Hi,
I love your tileset !! Is it reasonable to ask if some of your work could be used in an open source project such as your first tileSet?
I am working on FlashGameMaker, an open source collaborative project aimed to ease the creation of web games. It would be helpfull for us to have graphics of this quality in our games.

You can have a look to the project here :

Nice work, Alex!

Do you have samples of more "traditional" pixel art tiles... say like those from Tactics Ogre, or Final Fantasy TA?

Your work looks incredible! Do you also work as a concept artist? If yes, you could possibly join a team of me and a few other people, we are working on a free game (though the team members aren't paid). Reply to this post if you're interested. :)

Very nice work! I just want to encourage you to continue with your art work, it is very good.

Do you have any screenshot or examples of your work implemented in any games (indie or commercial)?
