Kart Tire Spring

The Problem:
Kart Tires are extremely small, so they end up going into the ground on ramps.

The Needed:
Make the Kart Tires stay on top of the ground, yet, still give a nice bouncy and physics effect when jumping off ramps and landing.


What We're Doing:
We are currently using 1 spring per tire with no suspension using the spring + damping formula ( F = - kx - bv )

k = spring constant
x = distance vector of spring points
b = damping constant
v = velocity

We're calculating the velocity by extracting only the velocity along the ray vector used to find the ground.

velocity = DotProduct(velocity, vGroundNormal) * vGroundNormal;

We've played with all sorts of damping but can't seem to get something suitable. We can make it really stiff and damp that it'll float over the surfaces, but it comes with side effects of being too stiff or damp by popping the kart high in the air. Any help would be awesome!
