Ok, probably a vague title.

Does adding Your Name's to a word legally help seperate it in the case of trademark disputes, ie Sid Meier's Civilization, if I were to create John Smith's Civilization, is that still a bad bad thing?

FWIW, I am not looking to do this. The word I have picked as far as I can tell in my preliminary searches is not used in the entertainment industry at all, but I was wondering whether adding your own name to it helps to seperate your game from any similar product and clarify your intent that you don't mean to pass off your product by using someone elses valuable mark.

I couldn't find a TESS entry for it, still can't but obviously that doesn't mean it's not registered. I was under the impression you couldn't trademark common words but now that i think about it Tim Langdell seems to have done that without issue.

I guess it's time to try and find a trademark lawyer!
