Understanding GPU Gems Papers

Im trying to figure out how to read technical papers such as these. Not only just refering to this paper what should I be looking at and that is most important on papers such as these.

The first thing I look at are the sections that are in bold. I've found that if the article is pretty long in gpu gems they are showing more than one way to do the same which one is supposed to be better quality or faster. I will usually pick what I think is the easiest and start reading the presented code and looking back at the article to make sure they are doing what I think they are doing in the code. It's just a method that works for me.


An example from the link you gave would be for me to read the code which I saw 2 parts in the article that I would want to work with first. The first one being the BRDF part (found in the beginning of the article) as I'm not really worried about the specular part and I rather understand that first. Pick a part of the article you want to focus on and give it a try instead of information overloading yourself with the whole article.
