I have an AVI that has audio encoded in mp3 format by something called "lame 3.98". I'm using the VFW AVI library. Opening the avi and reading its format works, but when I try to read the data of the audio, everything breaks down with AVIStreamRead. If I'm using PCM-16 audio encoded data, the data will be read, but If I using mp3 or mpeg2 audio data AVIStreamRead fails and returns "-2147204921" which doesn't compare to any of the error messages. Does anyone know of a solution? I'd really prefer not to have to use uncompressed audio as it's too big.

Thanks. I just found that AVIStreamRead returns an error or crashes on audio encoded in mp3, mpeg2, aac, and Dobly ac3. It works fine with wav, and wma!!!! and I'll leave it that =)
