I have been searching for a normal mapping algorithm that I can apply for an editor im planning on developing however I'm having difficulties finding anything on it besides the description and how to do it in 3d graphical editors. Looking for a way to generate a normal map similar to the way graphical editors such as blender3d does it (highres on top of lowres and bake). Can someone point me in the correct direction.

Hi,
The normalmapping algorithm permutes or replaces the surface's normals based on texels. This is normally done in a shader. The Wikipedia article explains fairly well. Try Googling "Normalmapping GLSL".

hmm, yeah i knew the normal maps were applied using a shading language GLSL actually being the shading language my engine uses; however, i never considered that it was also the one that created the normals in an image to be applied as well...
