Beginner Cpp developer rule #1:

You DO NOT USE Dev-Cpp! EVER! Its old, obsolete, unmaintained and full of bugs. You should try more reliable alternatives (Microsoft Visual Studio - Express edition or Code::Blocks).

Seriously...

Honestly? Use a more modern IDE, Visual Studio Express is FREE, Code::Blocks is FREE.

I'll refer you to jbadams reasons.

Drop Dev-C++, its horrendously out of date and quite buggy, with a really poor debugger. It will only hold you back. Visual Studio 2010 is free, very nice and has an easier default interface than previous versions. It also boasts a fantastic debugger. It is the standard that other C++ IDEs aspire to.
