Lighthouse3d Glut tutorial is really nice and have got some info about Glut.

However I do not wish to have Glut window. Use the windows.h for displaying the program and the text displayed on top of screen as HUD. I have been trying it but there is no display of text at all.

In the display function I call the glutDisplayFunc(render1)glutMainLoop() but nothing happens. Can anyone help how I can get this working ???

PS: Bascially this example code however not using glut window to display like this example http://www.lighthouse3d.com/opengl/glut/index.php?bmpfontortho

Yeah there are some tricks to do. I think Glut is easiest but not sure it works without glut window. But surely there must be a way to use it ?

glfont2 is another way but I need a nice example to understand how it works, many say that is really easy way to do [rolleyes]

Not sure but at least if you want to use bitmap fonts it's just one function call
glutBitmapCharacter	(	void *font , int character );
so it shouldn't be too hard to test.
