3d character collision and reaction

I'm working on a mmorpg game, and encounter a very difficult problem: a 3d character's collision and reaction in terrain.

I mark the walkable and not walkable with different color in their material, so my 3d character can walk, but when he collide a wall, he don't know how to slide, he is just still.

So hard, can you help me or give me some useful resource?

It depends how you are resolving the characters inter-penetration with the wall. Instead of clamping the velocity or position, try pushing the character away from the wall with a force until it no longer collides. Push in the direction of the normal of the wall at that point.

The rest of the forces you use to walk the character around should be applied as well and he should slide along the wall now. Tuning the penetration force will be the difficult bit!
