Picking is normally done by comparing the mouse location (usually in client coordinates) with rectangles, circles or other regions occupied by your "objects." In GDI, you can use PtInRect, PtInRegion or similar functions to determine if the mouse coordinates "intersect" an object.

If your objects are moving, ensure that the rectangle/circle/region has been updated to reflect the object's current location.
