Texture coordinate from position and normal (for terrain)

Hi,

Does anyone have a good idea on how could I generate texture coordinates from a position and normal?

I am generating a terrain, but I cannot create texture coordinates for it that actually look well.

I tried projecting from up, but when that looks very bad at steep angle. I also tried projecting from all the axes depending on the angle of the normal, but that gives me weird artifacts.


So maybe someone had a similar problem, or has some idea on how I could fix this?


Any idea is greatly appreciated.

You could try looking [url="http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems3/gpugems3_ch01.html"]here[/url] for a description of how to (among other things) texture terrain (section 1.5).
