I get an error that says, could not load required media. and a line below it, it says switcxhing to reference rasterizer, a software device that implements the entire Direct3D feature set but runs very slowly. i press ok and it says could not load required media and that the window will now close. anyone have a clue why this is happening. I am a beginner and this sort of thing is very discouraging. Thanks for any help :-)

I had that problem with an earlier install of the SDK. All the media files would be in a directory, and the executables in another. However, the executables referenced the media as if they were in the same dir. Move the media files to the exe files directory and it should work.

As for the reference rasterizer, your video card probably can''t handle DirectGraphics'' new features, and so DX switches to the reference rasterizer. AFAIK only the Radeon and the GF3 have a full implementation of DX8, but don''t quote me on this.
