Hi I''m really in need of some formulas for automatic generation of normals. I want the exact formulas (i.e. crossproducts, normalizes and so on), of course if any one tell me the details of creating normals, it would be greatly appreciated. good bye mail me at: vbdirectX@yahoo.com game/software developer/algorithm designer

Mailing you directly means that no one else gets to learn...

Assume you have 3 vertices making up a triangle v1, v2, and v3.

You can define two vectors (v3 - v1) and (v2 - v1) and take the cross product of them. Normalize and Voila! you have a normal vector.

Note that the order of the cross product will determine which way the triangle "faces" (ie. the normal might be outward or inward depending on the order. You want outward...)
