2x2 L8 texture problem

I have a texture 2x2, format L8. I fill it with data where each texel receives a value of 255. However, I don't know why two pixels indeed receive value 255, but two of them get 0. Such a strange situation occurs only when I fill a texture whose size is 2x2. With 1x1, 4x4 and up it's all okay.

Argh... forgot about the pitch completely. Width must have a mutiple of 4 *bytes* in width.
