For my term 4 CS assignment, the teacher has requested that we create a game using a GUI. The game can be about anything, we get a 5% bonus for graphics, music, and for using hashmaps (5% for each).

I've decided to create a 2D RPG, and I'd like to use an external library to facilitate the development. I have to be able to learn how to use it in two weeks as we are given about a month to complete this project.

So far I've considered lwjgl, does anyone else have a suggestion? Thanks for your help.

Try Slick2D. It uses LWJGL under the hood, but provides a lot of more convenient methods. There are also some good tutorials on the site, and good community to get you started.
