Where to start?

I'm using SDL in C++ and am aiming for a Age of Empires 1 / Starcraft 1 type of graphics, meaning isometric view. However I do not know how to do it.
I have googled and searched gamedev for articles, but the ones found are either very old without images or they don't explain much. Can someone point me to a good tutorial?
I'm basically at the point I've drawn my 2D tile map and want to switch to a isometric perspective.
