Hello everybody, I modeled some scenes and I'm going to generate heightmaps for those scenes, so that characters will be located in the scences correctly in my game. But what's the simplest way to generate the heightmaps directly from scene models? I'm using 3DS MAX R3.1. Thanks. Frank Edited by - frank2000 on September 9, 2001 4:56:28 AM

I''m not sure about 3ds max, but some 3d modelers let you render the z-buffer. You could just place the camera over your scenery and render the z buffer. You might be able to write a vertex shader for 3ds max that shades the vertex based on the height.
