v-table

hi iam prashanth i just now entered into c++ inheritance. but iam unable to understand what is v-table and it''s significance. please help me prashanthg

The vtable is where the object stores it''s function pointers. When you create a class that inherits from another, the vtable is updated with the new functions that override the older ones.

That''s very simplified. Most compilers can get away without have a vtable for a lot of classes (ie the ones that don''t use inheritance) and they don''t always put every function in the vtable (only those that are "overwritten" by subclasses).

I suggest you get yourself a good C++ book (one of the more advanced ones if you interested in the "inner working")
