Hi i'm working on a project in visual studio with c++ and at the moment when in debug mode all my prinf calls go to a console window.

I've set up a macro so when in in release mode they don't get compiled but the console window is still appearing.
I've tried setting the subsystem property to Windows (/SUBSYSTEM:WINDOWS) and the console doesn't appear but then when the program is run it creates a stderr and stdout text file in the run directory and then deletes them when the program shuts down. Is there a flag in code i need to set or a property in visual studio i can change so in release they just don't appear?

thanks in advance

Are you using any libraries? What you're describing doesn't sound like something MSVC does, but something that some libraries do, specifically SDL will pipe stdout and stderr to files.
