hey guys...i was thinking of some ideas about a mod of Unreal Tournament 2004. My main idea is to make it melee weapon based. So most of the weapons are the of the ancient sort, like swords, battleaxes, light sabre, etc... There is also a Gauntlet with the help of which a person can perform telekinesis which includes push, pull and hold an opponent. The player can also pull and hit the opponent with his weapon. The ability to use this Gauntlet depends on a Force meter. If it is full or more than half, the player can do significant damage.

The main problem with this melee weapon based fighting game is the map size. People will keep chasing each other for possibly a long time. So I wanted to improve upon this and also give the weapons a modern touch. As such I was looking for suggestions that would improve my game significantly. Can you guys help me out with some ideas? It's my school project and I have to submit a presentation on it.

It might sound a bit simple but why not just design smaller, specialized maps to fit your needs rather than tweaking your idea to fit all map sizes? Gladiator fights like this should be done in an arena after all.
