Film Grain/Noise

I have film grain/noise working right now, but I interpolate it by a t value [0,1]. However, if I interpolate it based on exposure linearly it only shows up in highly exposed scenes and if I do it in log space it shows up in almost all scenes. I was wondering if anybody had a better method, or if maybe somebody knew a physical formula for this?
