The latest release of my persistent browser-based game "Kingdoms" adds a new major feature. Players can now declare their own Kingdom, which allows them to tax mayors of towns they control, and offer quests to other parties to help them further their plans of world domination. This opens up a much more strategic and political element to the game, which has previously been focussed on traditional RPG-type play. Parties and towns can decide which Kingdom to swear allegiance to. The game's mini-map shows which areas of the world are controlled by which Kingdom.

Kingdoms is a party-based RPG, which has been under development for over 3 years. It's currently in "pre-beta", but very playable. In Kingdoms, you adventure around a grid-based world, where you can fight monsters, complete quests, discover new towns or explore dungeons. Higher level parties can construct buildings, raid towns, become mayors of towns (either democratically or by force), and become involved in the politics of several Kingdoms.

It's free to play, and there are over 150 active players (and growing!) already. To join in the fun, head to the Kingdoms site.
