Hi everyone,

does anybody know what are the advantages and disadvantages of Bayesian Belief network over propositional logic based system?

Thanks

Are you sure you're comparing the right things? Usually the comparison I have seen is between frequentist inference vs bayesian inference.

No, he probably is comparing the right things. Both of the things he describes are paradigms that allow reasoning, one with uncertainty and one without. But it's nearly impossible to compare them without the context of the types of things that he wants to use them for.

Also, from the scientists I know, I get the feeling that for the most part we have embraced all things Bayesian, and the frequentist/Bayesian debate is over.

For Bayes nets -
The domain of discourse is much larger as you can quantify over much more complex entities, your measure of confidence is much more flexible and not merely bivalent, propositional falls out of probability at the limits, you can update your knowledge in the optimal way, you can some idea of causal relationships.

Flaw of Bayesian vs Predicate logic system - Not very good at deep chains of reasoning and capturing structural relationships.
