I am new to game development and wanted to see if there was a book that gave you some insight on it.

I owned a book by WordWare about creating Strategy Games w/ Direct X 9, and recall it being quite good, but this was several years ago. I don't really know of any other strategy game centric books coming along since.

Fortunately, the entire book seems to be available on Google Books free.
