Are there any APIs that allows multiple window creations / child windows? I know that SDL 1.3 supports multiple windows but that is still under development / buggy...

Also, I don't want to use Win32

The main goal of SDL/SFML and Glut while we are at it is not to be a complete Window Toolkit API, it's mainly to simplify the windows creation part to facilitate skipping to the part of rendering graphics on top of it. If you want to do a bit more than empty windows, you'll need something else. Unfortunately, if you are using C++, using Win32 directly is a mess and MFC is still bad. Microsoft didn't go further into development this side, they jumped to C# with WinForms and WPF..

Wikipedia have a good list of toolkits : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Widget_toolkits
I would probably look into Qt or wxWidgets if I were you.
