OpenGL Rendering a point offscreen that's sized enough to be visible on-screen.

I'm seeing that when I set the glPointSize to a value greater than 1, that when the upper-left pixel of the point goes offscreen the entire point disappears, even if it was 100 pixels wide...

How do I tell OpenGL to stop doing the thinking, or at the least, to let these points render even if they were initially offscreen?

Render your point yourself, in whatever shape you want it to be.

Or, what may work (I'm not sure, but it's worth a try), is to extend the viewport outside the window. If you want your points to be 100 pixels large, extend your viewport by 50 pixels in each direction, and adjust the projection matrix accordingly so you don't change the coordinate system visible on the physical screen.
